Tuesday’s game against Elkhorn was a heartbreaker for Waverly Vikings, as they lost the lead late in a 13-5 defeat. Elkhorn was down 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cassie Coltvet homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs.

The Waverly Vikings struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Elkhorn, giving up 13 runs.

Elkhorn took an early lead in the first inning. Jadyn Hunt drove in two when she doubled.
Waverly Vikings tallied three runs in the second inning. Mac Steckelberg had an RBI single in the inning to lead the run scoring.

Syd Nuismer got the start for Elkhorn. She lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out four.

Mickayla Larsen was in the pitcher’s circle for Waverly Vikings. She lasted two innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out one. Kennedi Claycomb threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Elkhorn tallied two home runs on the day. Coltvet had a four bagger in the fourth inning. Jaycee Schutte had a homer in the fourth inning.

Waverly Vikings totaled eight hits in the game. Steckelberg and Jordyn Boehler each collected multiple hits for Waverly Vikings. Boehler and Steckelberg each collected two hits to lead Waverly Vikings.

Elkhorn tallied 14 hits in the game. Schutte, Hunt, Nuismer, Rachel Bruner, and Ari Crafton all managed multiple hits for Elkhorn. Schutte led Elkhorn with three hits in four at bats.
